Dear Representative Ocasio-Cortez,
We, the members of Prout Alliance, strongly support your work in the US Congress as a progressive leader and a fierce advocate for social and economic justice. We are inspired by your courage and eloquence in responding to the insults and hate speech from Mr. Yoho.
Instead of addressing his verbal abuse personally, you seized the opportunity to draw attention to every man’s insult and lack of apology that dehumanizes and suppresses women. You responded to the insults and hatred with compassion, love, and dignity. We appreciate that you took a stand against the disrespect that women have long endured.
In order to combat this, and many other issues pervasive in today’s society, we need to raise consciousness and create a change of heart. Every human being has physical, mental, and spiritual potential. We need to build a world in which all the capacities of women are acknowledged, honored, and respected.
We need to join together to transform our society through education at every age to create social awareness, so that all women and all people are given equal opportunity and justice through economic democracy. All women and men need to speak out courageously whenever any woman is disrespected. Silence is complicity.
